Transformational vs. Transactional Leadership
I love a good drive-through sometimes! Order my food. Pay for my food. Pick-up my food. A “thank you” and I’m on my way. A nice transaction: I pay – you hand me my order. While that is convenient sometimes, what is way more of an experience is when I go inside, dine with my hubby, family, or close friends, have a wonderful conversation, eat my meal slowly, and savor the moment.
Leadership can show up like both of these experiences! Transactional Leadership and Transformational Leadership are two very different approaches to leading people, especially in Kingdom, faith-driven cultures.
What Jesus modeled for us is transformational leadership! In Matthew 4:19, we see the vision and invitation to “follow me.” He was about the transformed life from the inside out. It was more about what was being formed in His team than short-term goals. Curating a transformational culture begins in the heart of a leader. Not simply offering correction, but coaching for each team member’s fullest potential. As we journey together this month, let’s assess how our leadership is shaping our teams. Cheering y’all on!
Father in Heaven, thank you for each and every leader today. As they steward their assignment and those they have been entrusted to serve on their teams, May the transformative work of Your grace propel their leadership and cultures. Encourage their hearts. Infuse their team with fruitfulness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
